Charger Charge: TPA unveils 500th EV station

Charging

Toronto, Ontario -- The Toronto Parking Authority and Toronto Hydro have energized their 500th electric vehicle charging station in the city, marking a milestone for North America's largest municipally owned EV charging network.

The newest charger, located at Green P Carpark 504 on Willingdon Boulevard, was activated on November 5. The network represents a significant portion of the more than 3,000 EV charging stations across Toronto.

TPA has led the expansion of the city's charging network since taking ownership in 2023. Toronto Hydro installed and operated the initial stations before transferring them to the parking authority.

"Purposeful expansion of our EV network is a catalyst for EV adoption across Toronto by creating accessible, reliable, and trusted charging solutions for city residents," said Scott Collier, president of the TPA.

The partnership began in October 2020 when Toronto Hydro installed its first EV charger. Since 2022, the utility has supported TPA in connecting on- and off-street chargers. This year alone, Toronto Hydro will connect more than 4,000 EV charging stations at buildings and residential homes.

Toronto Hydro chief executive officer Jana Mosley said reaching 500 stations "is a testament to what strong partnerships can achieve."
