Toronto, Ontario -- The LKQ Corporation is teaming up with Cedar Electric, a British electric vehicle battery repair firm to launch LKQ Electriq, a joint venture focused on repairing electric vehicle battery repairs, hybrid batteries and other high voltage component repairs for independent garages and bodyshops in Europe.
According to the release, LKQ Electriq offers “a repair-first solution for electric vehicle batteries and high-voltage components.”
Company officials added that independent garages and bodyshops could now rely on a specialist team led by Matt Copp (left) and Kevin Pearce (right) — known for their work at Cedar Electric — to provide outsourced support rather than investing themselves in costly specialized equipment and training.
“Over the past decade, we have worked to prove that safe and reliable EV battery and high-voltage component repairs can be delivered outside OEM channels," said Matt Copp. "With LKQ Electriq, we bring that capability directly to garages and bodyshops — enabling them to say ‘yes’ to EV repair work they might otherwise have to decline. Our unique repair solutions avoid the need for a full battery replacement — keeping EVs running more sustainably.”
LKQ Europe said that many repairs of electric vehicle battery and motor systems remained prohibitively expensive for independent repairers given the cost of specialised equipment and the unpredictability of work volume. This new venture was presented as a way to overcome that barrier by combining Cedar Electric’s technical expertise with LKQ’s scale and resources.
