Electric vehicles now make up 25.6% of all cars registered in a combined 17 European new-car markets, according to data from E-Mobility Europe and New AutoMotive.
More than 1.2 million BEVs were registered across Europe during the first half of 2026, including 275,060 in June alone, a 39.5% increase from June 2025. BEV registrations YOY increased by 33.7%, from 928,800 in the first half of 2025 to 1,214,916 in the first half of 2026. E-Mobility Europe and New AutoMotive note that the markets represent approximately 90% of the combined EU and European Free Trade Association new-car markets.
The BEV market share EU-wide is now an estimated 27.4%.
“June rewrote the record books for the EU’s EV market. From Denmark to Spain, and from France to Czechia, countries across Europe are reaching new heights in electric vehicle adoption,” said Chris Heron, secretary general of E-Mobility Europe, in a bulletin. “Better policies, better EVs and sustained concern over oil dependence are all converging. These results should give policymakers the confidence to finalise clear rules for securing the next phase of the transition.”
According to the report, German BEV registrations have grown by 50%, France has more BEVs registered than any month before and Belgium, Denmark, Portugal and Finland all set record high numbers of BEVs ever registered in a month.
Slovenia was ranked number one for BEV market share and sales growth by country, with YTD registrations growth of 124.7%, while the Netherlands came last in 17th place with YTD registrations growth of -18.7%.
