Charged Coaching: Federal government to invest in VR training for 400 EV sector workers in Windsor area

IBIS-2025-event-programme-5

Windsor, Ontario — The Canadian federal government, in partnership with Upskill Canada, has announced that it will be covering the cost to train approximately 400 people for Windsor’s electric vehicle (EV) battery plant.

Specifically referred to as the “Battery Boost” program, the initiative is set to run from February 2025 to March 2026. The program will also focus on simulation skills, using virtual reality (VR) to train workers.

As originally noted by CBC News, the program is meant to target laid-off workers or people seeking a career change.

Additionally, training will take place at the Invest Windsor Essex Automobility and Innovation Centre, with a “specialized curriculum” reportedly created in collaboration with NextStar Energy.

Applications to the program can be made online.

Joe Goncalves, the Interim CEO at Invest WindsorEssex further commented to CBC News that “by combining cutting-edge VR training technology with tailored industry expertise, we are equipping WindsorEssex workers with the skills they need to thrive in the growing battery manufacturing sector.”
