Toronto, Ontario — The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has indicated in a recent report that demand for electricity in Ontario is set to soar by 75 percent in the next decade due to the continued adoption of electric vehicles and artificial intelligence.

According to IESO’s report, this additional pressure on Ontario’s energy grid will come mainly from industry ventures, such as the three upcoming electric vehicle battery plants that are being developed across the province.

IESO’s report further notes that “industrial demand is anticipated to rise by 58 percent by 2035, adding the equivalent of a city the size of Toronto to the grid.”

The IESO also outlined how the province has enough power for the rest of the decade, and the organization is preparing a new energy efficiency framework for programs to manage increasing demands.
