Toronto, Ontario — Tesla has reduced the range performance of the Model Y on its website to 455 kilometres, from an initial range of 488 kilometres—a reduction of almost six percent.
According to Drive Tesla Canada, this is likely attributed to Tesla’s decision to begin importing Teslas to Canada from its gigafactories in China, according to updates in the electric vehicle manufacturer’s Design Studio site.
This change is further highlighted by the Model Y Performance becoming only available with a black interior, a pattern seen in the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive, whose range was lowered along and became only available with a black interior once imports from China began.
This change coincides with Tesla’s plans to reduce assembly costs by half in its future generation of vehicles, said Reuters.
