Toronto, Ontario – General Motors (GM) is ending production of the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle (EV) and electric utility vehicle lines, with GM’s CEO saying that the company would cease production at the end of the year.

This announcement was made on an earnings call on April 25, which Yahoo Finance says “was a bit unusual,” elaborating that the company would usually make a more formal announcement for its top-selling EV.

According to GM in late 2022, the company planned to boost Bolt production to 70,000 units for 2023, up from 44,000 units in 2022, and retails between US$25,000 to US$30,000, or approximately $34,000 to $40,800 Canadian.

“GM is able to offer affordable, and most importantly, profitable models positioned just above Bolt. The Equinox EV starts around $30,000 and Blazer EV around $40,000,” said Tyson Jominy, J.D. Power’s VP of data and analytics.
