Automotive manufacturing company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., otherwise known as Geely Holding, will be shipping Lotus EVs to Canada in July under a new bilateral trade deal with China.
Wang Di, China’s ambassador to Canada, confirmed the shipment to Reuters, saying that the arrangement permits up to 49,000 Chinese EVs into Canada annually at reduced tariff rates. A ceremony will be held when the vehicles are delivered in Montreal.
While other manufacturers, such as Chery and BYD, are still unable to ship vehicles to Canada under current regulatory requirements, Di hopes that other Chinese EV brands will get into the Canadian market.
Tesla has imported Chinese-made EVs into Canada through pre-existing arrangements.
