Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (supervised) system has been provisionally approved in Denmark. Færdselsstyrelsen, the Danish Road Traffic Authority, confirmed the decision on June 9, making Denmark the fourth European country to approve the software in approximately eight weeks.

The approval was originally issued by the Dutch vehicle authority RDW on April 10. “After a thorough review and assessment of the technical documentation, Færdselsstyrelsen agrees with RDW’s assessment that the system will contribute positively to road safety by assisting the driver while driving,” said Færdselsstyrelsen in a statement.

Denmark, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Estonia bypass the EU-wide approval path through national recognition of the Dutch certification. Previously, Denmark objected to FSD at the European level due to concerns surrounding driving on icy roads, exceeding the speed limit and if FSD’s name overstated its capabilities.

However, Denmark granted national recognition after conducting an independent review of the technical documentation. EU-wide approval is still far away, with the next bloc-wide vote predicted to be in October or December. At least 15 of the 27 member states must vote in favour of approval to reach a qualified majority.

Dutch provisional approval will become invalid after six months if the EU Commission rejects the FSD system, meaning that FSD cannot be sold in any EU country.
